CANTABILE – THE LONDON QUARTET zählt seit Langem zu den führenden Vokalensembles in Großbritannien. Als studentische A-cappella-Gruppe in Cambridge gegründet, erlangte das Quartett durch seine Mitwirkung in der Londoner Produktion des Musicals Blondel erste Bekanntheit. Mit Programmen, die sich von der frühen Vokalpolyphonie über Jazz bis zur zeitgenössischen Musik erstrecken, waren die Musiker auf unterschiedlichsten Bühnen zu Gast und veröffentlichten daneben zahlreiche Aufnahmen.
Mit The Great British A Cappella Songbook präsentiert das London Quartet eine Auswahl seiner beliebtesten Stücke in der Besetzung SATB. Vom bekannten Greensleeves über Volksmelodien und eine amüsante Fassung von Elgars Marsch Nr. 4 aus Pomp and Circumstance bis hin zu Gershwins Stadtporträt A Foggy Day (In London Town) bietet diese Sammlung alles, was „very British“ ist.
