John Scott premiered these pieces at the church of St Peter Mancroft, Norwich on 28th July, 1989. They may be played as voluntaries or as a recital set. Each one is based on a fine old church melody, but in addition draws on odd motives from anthems I haue previously composed for the saure seasons (0 Dayspring; From East to West; Almighty and everliving God; Is it nothing to . you?; Christ our Passover) also published by Bardic Edition. Thus the ideal performance of each piece would be in the course of a Service in which appropriate hymn and anthem also occurred.
