FOREWORD
This musical, based on Tolstoy's poignant story, tells how the old Russian shoemaker, Papa Panov, waits for Jesus to visit his workshop on Christmas Day. Throughout the day, the weary and disadvantaged arrive at his door. A poor mother carrying her child, the hungry urchins and the freezing roadsweepers are all received with kindness and compassion by Papa Panov.
Initially disappointed because Jesus didn't visit him, the shoemaker realises as the final Nativity scene unfolds that he did meet Jesus in all the people that he helped that day. Songs, dances, action and a sprinkling of humour are all combined in this expanded re-telling of Tolstoy's tale.
