Yardumian, Richard (1917-1985)
My God, My God, Why Hast Thou Forsaken Me? - Chorale Prelude for Organ - Orgel
|
Two chorale preludes for the Easter season by the eminent American composer, Richard Yardumian. EE KEREZMAN, based on a 13th century Armenian melody, is subtitled RESURRECTION, and is a slow, majestic statement in two movements that closely follows, as does the other prelude, the conventions of the Bach chorale prelude, but in a primarily tonal style unique to the composer. MY GOD, MY GOD is a very brief, but moving prelude basedon the tune, Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland (Now comes the Holy Saviour) from the early medieval hymn-book, the GEISTLICHES GESANGBUCHLEIN of 1524. There is a very important and integral part for the pedals in this prelude. Medium difficult.
