Chausson (1855 † 1899), the composer of the famous Poème for violin and orchestra, had studied with Franck. This single volume for solo organ was written on the request of Charles Bordes (the founder of the Schola Cantorum in Paris) and created by Tournemire. In it Chausson combines the gregorian modality with Franck-styled tonality.
Chausson was often criticized about some awkwardness in his way of writing for organ and some misunderstanding of the instrument. However comparing the original edition with the manuscript shows considerable differences : in the published version Chausson's text has been altered in many occasions. Actually Chausson knew quite well what he was doing : his work, perfectly matching the organ of his time, sounds remarkably well.
This edition restores the original text and allows to discover what Chausson really wrote. The foreword compares the published text with the author's manuscript, it explains the source and the probable reasons of the noticed differences. For the first time, here is this volume by Chausson as he really conceived it. For those who do not know this work yet, it will be a true discovery.
With no technical difficulties. The six first pieces are without pedals, the next ones have a simple pedal part.
