Das „Dettinger Te Deum“ entstand anlässlich des Sieges Englands gegen Frankreich in der Schlacht bei Dettingen. Es ist Händels letzte und gleichzeitig erfolgreichste Vertonung des Te-Deum-Textes und zeigt einen souveränen Umgang mit der englischen Kirchenmusik-Tradition.
Der Klangeindruck des breit angelegten Werkes wird durch die Chöre in einer fast szenischen Ausdeutung des Textes bestimmt. Auffällig sind einige Rückgriffe auf den kurz zuvor entstandenen „Messiah“.
Die vorliegende Edition der Barock-Spezialistin Amanda Babington bietet das Werk erstmals im Urtext der „Hallischen Händel-Ausgabe“.
